Enzymes Engineer a Better Digestive System |

Common remedies for digestive discomfort often involve antacids, which are beginning to get a bad rap for side effects and long-term problems that resemble the very symptoms we take them to resolve. |
It makes sense that we reach for something that offers a quick fix. About 40 percent of us have digestive symptoms that are keeping us from doing the things we love. Meanwhile, gastrointestinal problems arise from a constantly growing list of causes. There may be one quick fix that's safe, though. In the symphony of biochemical processes that drives digestion, digestive enzymes are a major player. Produced by the pancreas, these enzymes dwindle with age and due to certain habits and toxins. Supplementing with digestive enzymes might resolve an acute situation and give us time to develop healthier habits that resolve the underlying issues. And unlike antacids, it appears there's little risk in taking enzymes as a long-term solution if needed. |
